Volunteering

Why Volunteer?

We’re not just after the next Bear Grylls. We’re not even after the next Steve Backshall. All we’re after in Scouting is people willing to give a bit of time, energy and share some of their skills with the group. In Scouting, there is quite literally a role for everyone! Yes, we are lucky enough to have an amazing team of leaders at West Thorpe, but on top of those incredible people, there are a whole host of additional volunteers behind the scenes that you may never see. It is every one of these people working together that makes a Scout Group work.

What do I have to do?

Perhaps that’s the wrong question. Instead of thinking about what we want you to do, think about what you are able and willing to do. Whatever you want to do, we can find a role for you in Scouting!

“Volunteering with West Thorpe has truly made me the confident person I am today. Without my experience leading young people through West Thorpe, I would likely be in a different profession and I would not be as confident as I am today. The transferrable skills, such as organisation, events management, cooperation and care that Scouting helps you to develop are invaluable during the rest of your daily life.”

– Tom Ibbott, Group Lead Volunteer
