Our Young Leaders really are the beating heart of our group at West Thorpe. They’ve been there and done it. Now they’re back to help out the next generation and they are shaping the future of West Thorpe as we know it.
Upon finishing Scouts, some young people choose to join a local Explorer Unit. many, however, choose to remain members of the group by becoming Young Leaders, meaning that they attend a younger section as volunteers to support the running of that programme. All Young Leaders are a part of West Thorpe’s ‘Young Leader Unit’, who meet every couple of weeks to complete training modules, socialise and have fun and adventure.

When?
Our YLs all attend a younger section weekly. In addition to this, they meet roughly every two weeks for their own activities. The day of the week is flexible and decided by the YLs themselves. We occasionally do other events on other days too.
Where?
Our sessions usually run at West Thorpe Methodist Church. Any sessions elsewhere will be communicated in advance.
Why?
To further develop the skills established in Scouts of teamwork and leadership, amongst others, ahead of preparing for the real world and adult life! Being a Young Leader is also a perfect opportunity to get a feel for leadership and gain experience working with young people.
