Uniform & Badges

A sense of identity…

All members of Scouts wear a uniform which identifies them. Depending on which age group the member is in, their uniform will differ slightly.

What we all wear…

Every Scout Group/District/County etc. has their own necker to differentiate them from other groups in the locality. At West Thorpe, our necker is grey with a maroon border. All members from Squirrels up to adult leaders should be wearing this at every organised session. The preference is for this to be worn with a woggle, which can be bought from the group for £1. Alternatively, the necker can be tied into a friendship knot.

Uniform can be purchased from many online retailers. To ensure money gets put back into Scouting, we recommend purchasing uniform from The Scout Store, Glasgow Scout Shop or The Scout and Guide Shop.

Badges

Fundamental to the way that Scouts is structured are badges. Every young person has the opportunity to earn a range of activity badges. In addition, there is a possibility to work especially hard to earn Challenge Awards. And for those young people who go the extra mile, the Chief Scout’s Top Award is also a reasonable achievement.
