Going away from home for the very first time can be tough. At Scouts, we help to create a safe, nurturing environment, where a young person’s first night away can be done surrounded by their friends and by people that know them well.
Nights Away are a huge part of the Scouting experience and a night away can consist of indoor sleeping; sleeping under canvas; sleeping outdoors in bivvies – any form of sleeping really! What is for certain is that every camp or sleepover will be filled with exciting activities and adventure, many of which are rarely experienced outside of a Scouting scenario.

Nights Away Safety
Safety is always our top priority in Scouts. That is no different during nights away. To help keep your young people safe, a minimum of one adult present on every night away will hold a Nights Away Permit, which evidences the fact that they have been formally assessed as competent to run nights away for young people in Scouting. Additionally, every event must go through three levels of risk assessment checking before the event is formally approved.
We also know that nights away can, at times, be a slight worry for parents. That’s where InTouch comes in. Every camp will have a clear InTouch system in place, whereby you, as parents, can stay in touch with us on site as and when you need to. Likewise, if here are any issues, we can easily get in touch with you in the same way.
